(Luke 10:1–24) “The Lord Appointed Other Seventy Also”

1.           Review Luke 10:1–24. Based on these verses, write a summary of the Lord’s counsel and instructions He gave the seventy.

The counsel and instructions that the Lord gave the seventy was to go and preach the gospel. Ask the for the Lord’s help in all your labors so he can lead them. Don’t carry around any positions, for the Lord will provide. Go unto house to house to teach, heal the sick, and perform miracles. Those who will accept you in, will obtain the kingdom of heaven and those who don’t will get there punishment later.

                                             

2.           Articles of Faith 1:6 states, “We believe in the same organization that existed in the Primitive Church.” Using the principles taught from Luke 10:1–2, 8–9, 17–20, write a paragraph that supports this Article of Faith.

The Savior sent in his Seventy to go two by two to go preach the Gospel to all of those who are ready. He said unto them “The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest.” Today we have the missionaries, who give up any amount of time the can offer to preach the Gospel. In Doctrine and Covenants 33:7, we are given instructions as Latter-Day Saint and they say “Yea, verily, verily, I say unto you, that the field is white already to harvest; wherefore, thrust in your sickles, and reap with all your might, mind, and strength.” The Seventy who were called from Christ were told to go and heal the sick and afflicted. They would listen and accept the gospel. As missionaries and members, we have the priesthood so we can give blessings of healing and/or of comfort and counsel. I know many friends who have received priesthood blessings who were not LDS and have felt the spirit. That helped some of them come to learn about the gospel. They seem to be more willing to accept the truth if they are ministered unto. Even though we have Satan who can harm us, we have the power to rejoice in our Savior.

3.           Go to the Church’s scripture website and read the topic of “Seventy” in the Guide to the Scriptures. Describe in one or two sentences how the scriptures show the existence of this office in the priesthood.

If we have those who are willing to give up their time and talents to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ, God will give them the priesthood.
